Salary sacrifice the Skoda Enyaq from The Electric Car Scheme
Did you know that Skoda initially started by making bicycles in the 1890s before progressing to motorcycles and eventually manufacturing cars in 1905? Today, Skoda offers just one electric car: the Skoda Enyaq. This compact crossover SUV was introduced in September 2020 and began mass production in November 2020. In 2023, the all-electric Enyaq series set a new sales record, with 81,700 vehicles sold, 10% of which were in the UK. Skoda has also recently entered the Vietnamese market to leverage the region’s potential.
At The Electric Car Scheme, we offer two Skoda Enyaq models for lease: the Coupé and the Estate, both available in various specifications. The Enyaq is renowned for its practicality and comfort, making it an ideal family car. Here’s what to expect:
The Skoda Enyaq
As previously mentioned, the Skoda Enyaq is a practical car designed to appeal to families. For 2024, there have been several updates, including improved infotainment software and increased overall speed. The boot is exceptionally large, offering more capacity than any alternatives except the Tesla Model Y, though it lacks a front boot, which can sometimes be handy. The new 85 models, listed below, have more power, making the car quicker off the mark than before. The Skoda Enyaq has an RRP ranging from £38,970 to £53,070, but if you choose to lease through The Electric Car Scheme, you could pay £449 per month as a 40% taxpayer, with a three-year lease and 10,000 miles per annum.

Previously, the Skoda Enyaq offered two battery options, but now it comes exclusively with an 82kWh battery, which can achieve up to 348 miles on a single charge.
What’s the Skoda Enyaq like to drive?
Strong performance and comfort at speed make the Enyaq excellent for long journeys, though it offers a different driving experience compared to a Tesla. Electric cars are at home in urban environments, and the Skoda Enyaq is no exception. The motors are quiet and responsive, allowing you to navigate through traffic effortlessly or relax in stop-start conditions with ease. The suspension handles bumps well, providing a generally smooth ride even over rough surfaces. The turning circle is impressively small for a car of this size, at just 9.3 meters (10.8 meters for the all-wheel drive version), making the Enyaq easy to manoeuvre. Front and rear parking sensors, along with a rear-view camera, help you fit into smaller parking spaces.
On motorways, the Enyaq becomes even smoother as speeds increase. The cabin remains quiet, with minimal engine, wind, and road noise, allowing for comfortable conversations even with passengers in the back seats. Acceleration is more notable in the 85 and 85x models compared to the 60, though the entry-level version is still quite capable. For frequent motorway travellers, the 85 model is ideal due to its larger battery, providing longer intervals between charges.
On country lanes, the Enyaq feels substantial due to its size and weight, but the low battery placement helps maintain stability and minimize body lean. While it may not be as agile as a Tesla Model Y or Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Enyaq handles corners neatly and deals well with uneven road surfaces when driven at a relaxed pace. For enhanced performance in winter conditions, consider the 85x model. Unlike the other versions that are rear-wheel drive, the 85x offers all-wheel drive, providing better handling in snow and ice.
Space inside the Enyaq
In the front, drivers will find it easy to get comfortable thanks to ample head and legroom. Adjustable lumbar support allows you to fine-tune your seating position, although only the entry-level Enyaq lacks an electronically adjustable driver’s seat. Storage is plentiful, with large, felt-lined door bins to prevent items from rattling, a spacious centre console with two cupholders, a standard-sized glovebox, and additional space under the armrest. The front of the car is designed with practicality in mind.
In the back, passengers will enjoy generous legroom and headroom, ensuring a comfortable journey for everyone. Wide-opening doors and ISOFIX fittings make it easy to install a child seat. The flat floor allows three people to sit comfortably in the back. One downside is that USB ports in the rear are an additional cost, which might be surprising since they are standard in many other EVs.
The boot inside the Enyaq is spacious, with a capacity of 585 litres, offering plenty of room for luggage or a large grocery shop. While this is less than the Tesla Model Y's combined capacity of 971 litres from its boot and front trunk, it is still substantial. When the rear seats are folded down, you gain significantly more space, though the floor is slightly uneven. However, you can adjust the floor height to accommodate larger items more easily across the back of the car.
Interior and infotainment
On the outside, the Enyaq may look like any other car, but it stands out with its thoughtful design features. Inside, the three-spoke steering wheel includes real buttons, a significant feature in the EV world where many controls are replaced by touchscreens. The compact driver display is simple yet effective, providing essential information with customizable options.
The infotainment system features a 13.0-inch screen across all Enyaq models. While there are shortcut buttons for easier navigation, the climate controls are integrated into the touchscreen, which can be a bit fiddly. However, you can use Enyaq’s digital assistant, Laura, for voice commands, offering an alternative to constant touchscreen use. As with any virtual assistant, its performance can vary.
Smartphone integration is seamless with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing you to mirror your phone’s display. Additionally, wireless charging is available on all models except the most basic one, enhancing convenience for all users.

The Skoda Enyaq Coupé
The Skoda Enyaq Coupé is very similar to the original Enyaq, but it has a sportier look. The Coupé version has a sloped roofline and interesting interior. It has been designed to compete with the likes of Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback or the Volkswagen ID.4. All versions get a dark-tinted panoramic glass roof and alloy wheel sizes range from 19 to 20-inches.
Model | Battery Size | 0-62mph | Range | Cost per month |
---|---|---|---|---|
85 Edition | 82kWh | 6.7 seconds | 355 miles | £457 |
Sportline Plus 4x4 | 82kWh | 6.6 seconds | 332 miles | £496 |
vRS 4x4 | 82kWh | 5.5 seconds | 340 miles | £541 |
85 Laurin + Klement | 82kWh | 6.7 seconds | 345 miles | £544 |
The Coupé is equipped with an 82kWh battery, providing a range between 332 and 355 miles depending on the model chosen. With an efficiency figure ranging between 3.8 and 4.2 miles per kWh, it compares favourably with other electric SUVs. The vehicle can charge at a speed of 135kW on public charging points, similar to many other EVs. Using a fast charger, you can expect to reach 80% charge from 0% in approximately 28 minutes, although it's rare to completely drain the battery. When charging at a 7kW home charging point, Skoda estimates a 0%-100% charging time of seven-and-a-half hours.
What’s the Coupé like to drive?
The Enyaq's spacious interior is both a benefit and a drawback in urban settings. While it offers ample room inside, navigating tight city streets or crowded car parks may feel cumbersome. However, the light steering alleviates much of the effort, ensuring manoeuvrability, and providing good visibility. Both trims of the Enyaq Coupé come with standard front and rear parking sensors and a rear parking camera, which is convenient. Additionally, an optional surround-view camera is available for extra assistance. Rear visibility is somewhat compromised compared to the SUV Enyaq due to the sloping rear window and thicker rear pillars. The Enyaq handles poor road surfaces well, offering a comfortable ride over urban obstacles. Its electric powertrain delivers instant acceleration, making it easy to navigate through traffic. However, it lacks more advanced brake energy regeneration options found in some competitors, such as full one-pedal driving.
Comfort remains consistent as speeds increase, making long journeys enjoyable in the Skoda Enyaq. With minimal engine noise and little wind noise, there’s no need to increase audio volume at higher speeds. While the electric motor provides ample low-speed acceleration, its performance diminishes slightly at higher speeds, requiring more time to build momentum.
While the Enyaq Coupé has a sportier appearance, it isn’t optimised for spirited driving on winding roads. It offers solid but unremarkable handling, lacking the agility of smaller vehicles. Despite its tall stance, the Enyaq Coupé exhibits minimal body lean, allowing for confident cornering. However, the light steering, beneficial in urban environments, feels less engaging on twisty roads, lacking the desired feedback. Additionally, the large steering wheel accentuates the size of the car, detracting from the driving experience. Nevertheless, the Enyaq handles bumpy roads well, maintaining stability, and the brakes provide adequate stopping power without being overly sensitive, enhancing overall driving comfort.
Space inside the Skoda Enyaq Coupé
In the front of the Coupé, you'll find ample room similar to the original Skoda Enyaq, along with under-arm stowage, an adjustable armrest, lined door pockets, and plenty of phone charging options. A standard panoramic roof, optional on the SUV version, floods the cabin with natural light, as it lacks a blind.
In the back seats, there's abundant legroom, and despite the sloped roof, headroom isn't an issue. Unlike the Skoda Enyaq, there are USB-C sockets in the back. Comfortable seating and generous legroom make longer journeys pleasant, and although there's a slight raise to the central cushion, three adults can comfortably fit in the back.
Like the original Enyaq, the boot offers ample space with 570 litres (15 litres less than the original), expandable to 1,610 litres when the back seats are folded down. Storage space underneath the boot accommodates charging cables, and various hooks cater to different items, ensuring versatility.
Interior and infotainment
As expected, the interior design and infotainment system in the Coupé is largely similar to the regular Enyaq model. The cabin features a pleasing blend of materials and contours, avoiding a monolithic black appearance. The driver benefits from a small screen, while the well-positioned and responsive 13-inch touchscreen remains unchanged. Notably, climate control buttons are integrated into the touchscreen, ensuring accessibility regardless of the screen being used. Additionally, several shortcuts for frequently used functions are available, enhancing user convenience.
