Mercedes-Benz has once again raised the bar for electric performance with the unveiling of its latest innovation – the Concept AMG XX. This high-performance electric car blends the brand’s racing heritage with next-generation EV engineering, offering powerful battery technology, sleek aerodynamics, and of course, luxury electric mobility.

As part of Mercedes’ broader commitment to electrification, the AMG XX signals a major leap forward in the company’s EV lineup, and across the industry. For UK drivers, accessing vehicles like the AMG XX is becoming more practical than ever, thanks to salary sacrifice schemes that dramatically reduce the cost of premium EVs. High-end, zero-emission driving is here, and it’s exhilarating.

Unprecedented Speed and Power

The AMG XX is an extremely powerful EV, fitted with three electric motors, delivering a combined power output of exactly one megawatt – or 1,360 horsepower. This level of power indicates that the AMG XX should be the fastest-accelerating car that Mercedes has ever made, potentially able to do 0-60mph in under 2 seconds. Furthermore, its top speed is almost unprecedented for an EV, with the AMG XX capable of reaching 224mph.

Under the bonnet (figuratively speaking), the AMG XX houses a cutting-edge high-density battery pack – although Mercedes is yet to confirm the exact specifications. However, the AMG XX can charge at 850kw DC, taking the car from 20-80% in just five minutes, making it more than four times as powerful as the latest Tesla Superchargers. The power of the AMG XX’s suggests that a full charge could last between 300 and 400 miles, making it ideal for longer-range EV travel.

However, it’s worth noting that charging such a powerful battery with an equally powerful charging point would be a rarity in the current climate, with very few stations capable of up to 850kw DC. One remedy to this problem is the use of The Charge Scheme app by The Electric Car Scheme, which helps drivers find the closest compatible charger for their EV, and can save 20-50% on all EV charging costs through salary sacrifice.

Aerodynamic Exterior and Embracing Electric

The Mercedes AMG XX Concept pushes aerodynamic innovation to the forefront of its visual design. With a sleek drag coefficient of just 0.198, the four-door coupe’s teardrop-like silhouette and strategically placed winglets – borrowed from Formula 1 – work seamlessly to reduce drag and enhance downforce. These active aero wheels, equipped with electronically controlled blades, optimize brake cooling or close flush to minimize turbulence, marking a world-first innovation in EV aerodynamics.

Continuing AMG’s evolutionary design language, the XX concept draws clear inspiration from past icons – the Vision One‑Eleven and 1970 C111-II – with its Sunset Beam orange livery and bold front fascia. The headlight-speaker integration not only delivers a distinctive AMG growl but also permits a cleaner front-end styling, as the concept dispenses with a rear window in favour of a sleek rear LED display panel. Carbon-fibre bucket seats and a wraparound digital cockpit hint at a race-inspired interior while maintaining luxury appeal.

Compared to other luxury EVs, the AMG XX stands out with its advanced aero tech, dramatic aesthetic and performance-first design philosophy that aligns perfectly with electric vehicle efficiency.

Sleek and Futuristic Interior

Sleek and Futuristic Interior

The interior of the Mercedes AMG XX Concept is sleek, futuristic, and by the company’s own admission, “purist” – it has been designed to offer a luxurious and minimalistic experience akin to driving a racing car. This aesthetic choice also applies to the bodyshell, which exposes technology through bodyshell structures and illuminated orange pipes, giving the car an analog feel despite its electric wiring, further contributing to its parallel with racing cars.

The AMG XX’s futuristic aspect is apparent in the large touchscreen dashboard, which provides both driver assistance features like GPS and infotainment, advertising a variety of “content”. Enjoying this aforementioned content should also be comfortable with the 3D-printed seat pads crafted from a biotechnological alternative to leather and silk called LABFIBER.

This philosophy behind designing the driver experience should serve as a benchmark for Mercedes-AMG’s future in EV car design, with the interior of the vehicle building on past designs by the subsidiary.

Niche Appeal

This electric car is designed for the racing fanatic with a passion for EVs and a love of luxury. It wraps sleek electrical engineering with a more analog aesthetic, but also features a variety of nifty technologies to appeal to someone who wants a more classic EV ownership experience. This combination makes the AMG XX stand out among zero emission vehicles, which typically embrace the minimal aesthetic of driving electric instead of a more rugged and flashy look. Therefore, it should appeal to performance car enthusiasts interested in making the EV transition.

Similar cars adopting this approach are the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which delivers race-ready performance and detailed driver engagement within a luxury package, and the Audi RS e-tron GT, combining bold aesthetics, quattro handling, and top-tier comfort. Another strong contender is the Lotus Emeya, a grand tourer EV with aggressive styling, active aerodynamics, and track-focused tech that bridges the gap between heritage and the electric future. Lastly, the Tesla Model S Plaid, while more tech-centric, still appeals to thrill-seekers with its raw acceleration and understated cabin refinement, though it leans more toward digital minimalism.

Importance in the EV Market

The Mercedes AMG XX Concept plays a strategic role in Mercedes-Benz’s broader electrification roadmap, acting as a technological and branding beacon for the future of high-performance electric cars. As part of the company’s commitment to delivering an all-electric lineup by the end of the decade, the AMG XX represents not only a showcase of cutting-edge EV innovation but also a bold challenge to rival luxury automakers in the zero-emission space.

Its advanced technology – such as 850kW fast charging, multi-motor power delivery, and active aerodynamic systems – serves as a glimpse into what could soon become standard across future Mercedes electric cars, even at lower price points. As seen in other industries, flagship concept vehicles often lead to trickle-down innovation, and the AMG XX may be the catalyst for next-generation features across the EQ and AMG-EQ lineups. As mentioned previously, the most notable example of this could be higher-power charging stations to accommodate the battery and fast charging.

In terms of market influence, the AMG XX has the potential to shift perceptions around electric mobility, particularly among petrolheads and traditional luxury car buyers. It adds emotional appeal and performance credibility to the EV segment, which has long been dominated by minimalistic design and tech-focused experiences.

As a result, this concept car isn't just pushing technical boundaries – it’s helping to accelerate electric vehicle adoption by making EVs desirable, aspirational, and thrilling for a new generation of drivers.

The Electric Car Scheme: Plan for the Future

The Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept is just a concept vehicle, but the engineering underneath – most notably the battery and charging innovation – will remain when the final car becomes available on the market in 2026.

This makes the GT XX an extremely exciting option in combination with the Electric Car Scheme, which gives drivers a 20-50% discount on their lease through EV salary sacrifice. These savings are possible because payments are taken from gross salary before tax and National Insurance, dramatically reducing the total cost of electric car ownership.

The scheme also benefits from the UK government’s low Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax rate of just 3% for electric cars in the 2025/26 tax year – making luxury EVs like the AMG GT XX significantly more affordable compared to petrol or diesel company cars.

For employers, The Electric Car Scheme includes Complete Employer Protection, covering early termination, employee resignation, or long-term sickness, ensuring zero financial risk for businesses who support sustainable transport through a company electric vehicle plan.

Accessing the scheme is straightforward. Employers sign up to the Electric Car Scheme, where employees can then browse a curated selection of electric cars, run a salary sacrifice calculator, and order their EV with full servicing, insurance, and maintenance included.

Employers and employees can visit The Electric Car Scheme today to start their EV journey, and take advantage of electric car salary sacrifice. If the Electric Car Scheme interests you, contact your HR team – we have a useful guide helping you to convince your employer.
