Congratulations on ordering your brand new electric car! We are thrilled that you have made the conscious decision to switch to electric and are about to embark on your personal journey towards achieving Net Zero. Your commitment to a greener future is commendable, and we are excited to support you every step of the way.

We understand that getting a new electric car can come with questions, and if this is your first time leasing or using salary sacrifice you may have even more. So, our Customer Operations Team have answered the main questions they get asked after you place your order with The Electric Car Scheme.

This blog covers FAQs about your home charger, delivery of your car and a couple topics you may want to know more about.

How does the home charge point installation process work?

If you’ve ordered your electric car with The Electric Car Scheme, and have decided to source a home charge point as part of your lease. Our partner,Smart Home Charge, will be completing your install, so once the delivery date for your electric vehicle is confirmed, we will notify them.

Smart Home Charge will send you a text message or email to ask for a site survey. This will require information of the area where you wish to have the charger installed so that they can prepare for the installation. This is a short process and can include taking photos of where you’d like the charger installed, and of your electric metre at your home.

Once you complete the survey, send it back to Smart Home Charge, they will take steps to arrange an engineer when one becomes available in your area.

The installation will typically take 1-2 weeks depending on your area. Fear not, they’ll ensure the home charge point is set-up and ready for when your brand new electric car arrives.

Any charger you salary sacrifice with us is compatible with all energy providers.

What is the car delivery process?

Now that your brand new electric car is within reach, you may have some questions about the delivery process. We’ve summarised how this typically looks when ordering from The Electric Car Scheme.

How will my EV be delivered?

Your new car could be delivered either by truck or driven to you. This depends on the availability from the dealer but ultimately it is however we can get you the car fastest.

In the majority of cases, vehicles are driven to your chosen handover address. On the day of delivery, the delivery driver will pick up your vehicle from the dealership or PDI (pre-delivery inspection) centre and drive it to your home or workplace.

What time will my car be delivered?

When you book your car delivery it will be an all day slot from 8am to 6pm, we cannot confirm any further details than this. However, the delivery driver will contact you before they arrive - so keep an eye on your phone!

What happens once the car arrives?

The delivery driver will show you the basic features of the vehicle and point you to the documents and manuals for the car.

Please make sure the vehicle is thoroughly checked during the handover process. In the unlikely event of there being any damage on the vehicle, please ensure this is recorded on the delivery release note at the time of delivery and report it to us as soon as possible.

In some situations, if your vehicle doesn't match what you ordered when it’s delivered, please speak to us directly and we’ll be able to help.

I have received my EV but it is damaged / dirty! What should I do?

When the car is delivered, record any evidence of the damage (take pictures and point anything out to the delivery driver so they can take a note too). The delivery driver will always note any damage during this process, so it’s very important you make them aware of it.

Please also inform us if there is damage or if the car has arrived dirty, we’ll do our best to make things right as quickly as possible.

Can I add my personalised number plate?

Yes, but you need to contact the lease/ finance company directly and follow their instructions. This is because the leasing company is the registered owner of the vehicle and you will not own the car at any point in the lease. If you’re not sure who the lease/ finance company is, please let us know and we can share their details with you.

In some cases, the leasing company may charge you an admin fee as well for arranging it.

When it’s time to return your car, it is your responsibility to ensure the personalised number plate is transferred back to you. This process can take some time, so it’s important to get onto this at least six months before your car's return date.

I have my new electric car, but my vehicle app is not working

Once you receive your vehicle, the leasing company will need to set it up on their system to give you access. This takes place after the delivery and can typically take up to 48 hours to update through the manufacturer - sometimes it can take longer.

Upon delivery, you will always be giving the vehicle’s keys, so you don’t have to wait for app access before enjoying your new car.

Other questions you might have on your new EV

How can I learn more about my new EV?

We know before your car arrives that you’ll be very excited and want to learn as much about it as possible! We recommend checking the OEMs website to learn about all the unique features that come with your car - also YouTube is a great resource as well - full of reviews from other like minded drivers and can teach you a lot about your new car.

If you have questions about the car you have ordered - please reach out to us and we’ll try to answer those as best as possible.

I have placed my order, what happens next?

If you have ordered your car through The Electric Car Scheme, once you place your car order, the lease documents will go to your employer and the leasing company for final approval. Once this is completed, the lease will be issued and you will receive a delivery date.

Please note: a delivery date cannot be confirmed before the lease documents have been signed and approved by the leasing company.

Can I take my new car abroad?

If you would like to take your electric car abroad, you will need to notify the leasing company as they own the car. They will be able to advise you on the policy and any documents you might need for your trip.

I need to get a parking permit and need the V5c document

As the leasing company are the registered owners of the car, they will be the ones registered on the V5c. Contact your leasing company and they will either send you a letter of authorisation or a copy of the V5c.

Can I make modifications to my new electric car?

Unfortunately not, you are not able to modify the vehicle in any way since the leasing company is the registered owner of the car. If you were interested in making any small modifications such as window tints, we recommend contacting the lease company in the first instance.

My EV has now been delivered, does that mean I own the car?

No, the leasing company are the registered keepers and owners of the vehicle, at no point in will you own the car.

Please note that these are general answers and may not necessarily apply to your Electric Car Scheme order.
